Using electronically scanned phased arrays is expanding in platforms comparable to radar, instant networks, and satellite tv for pc flooring terminals. a huge and valuable part for those structures is the transmit obtain (T/R) module, which supplies the amplification and digital beam steerage that's required for correct functionality.

It is also possible to write a "dual" interface that provides the same functionality through both early-bound vtable and late-bound dispatch interfaces. As we'll see in Chapter 14, OLE Automation includes a number of guidelines for automating an entire application, by which, instead of implementing one automation object, you're actually implementing an object hierarchy. If you have a reasonably object-oriented application already, as I have with the sample application in that chapter, adding OLE Automation support can be done in a few days, even without any additional supporting tools such as the Microsoft Foundation Classes (MFC), which would make the job even easier.

A connectable object, for example, receives pointers to sink interfaces through IConnectionPoint::Advise. • Call an API function that given a class identifier creates an object and returns any type of interface pointer you request. The COM API function CoCreateInstance, the new operator for custom components, is the primary function in this category. As you can see, both OLE and your own component and object implementations will involve most of these techniques at some time or other. In each case, there is also a difference in how you identify the object or component you're trying to use.

With OLE Drag and Drop, the user selects the data, picks it up by holding down the mouse button, drags it to the insertion point in the consumer (called the target in this context), and then releases the mouse button to drop it in the target. OLE performs a Move (Cut) operation by default, which the user can modify to a Copy operation by holding down the Ctrl key or a Link operation by holding down Shift+Ctrl (assuming the source provides a moniker in the data object). During the process, the source controls the mouse cursor and determines when a drop happens (because it knows what caused the drag), when the operation should be canceled (Esc is pressed), or when the operation Chapter 1 An Overview of OLE 31 32 Chapter 1 An Overview of OLE should continue.
